Hit them on a good night and they can't be beat.: But I've found their good nights are harder to hit lately than ever. It seems like the pizzas are either undercooked (literally soggy in the center) or overcooked (blackened discs) more often than not. However, when they do come out right I think the crust is the best in town. Soft and bready with a light garlic butter flavor. The service can also be hit or miss. But when it all comes together it's a very nice pizza outing. It's just the variability that keeps me from going more often. Sidenote: the Holcomb Bridge location seems to be consistently good.

Used to be good . . .: Yes, Mellow Mushroom used to be good pizza. Then they went "corporate." It's not so good, anymore. Too bad.

It's pretty good: I enjoyed MM Pizza during my stay in the A. If you want real NY slices you have to go o Brickhouse Oven Pizzaria in Roswell off Atlanta St/ Alpharetta Hwy. Best slices in the state, guaranteed.

Turn your pizza into an 'experience': Not only is the pizza excellent, the atmosphere of this place makes eating your pizza even more fun than you've got a right to!

Best in the South: I grew up in NJ and lived in NYC and I had REALLY been missing a slice this good until I found MM in Augusta. Chunks of fresh garlic! Find THAT at your raggedy Dominos or Papa John's! Having about a thousand different beers from everywhere on earth doesn't hurt, either.

Depends: Mellow Mushroom is a small chain, so it depends on where you go. The MM on piedmont in downtown atlanta is VERY good. The one that was in the northlake area was terrible and dirty, but it got torn down and a new really good one came.

You've got to be kidding: Obviously those who think Mellow Mushroom is good pizza have no idea what good pizza actually is. I've had freezer pizza that tasted better. If you want good, authentic New York Style Pizza, you need to go to Mona Lisa located in Alpharetta.

No Fellinis?: MM isn't all that good. This is just another instance of people in atlanta gravitating toward shoddy chain food. The only pizza in Georgia I like all that much is Athens Pizza in Athens, GA.

I have grown up going to Pizzaria Regina's in the North End. It is the best pizza ever! Thin crust with just enough cheese and toppings. They will tell you how it is there. If you a rude inconsiderate jerk, they will boot you out. You are on their turf! Now i want some really bad!! lol

Another cookie cutter restaraunt: Even Pizza Hut beats MM. As far as MM being like NY pizza. So very not true. NY pizza isn't bland or chewy like MM. MM tends to think they can make "healthy" pizza taste good. Never happen. If you want to get as close to NY style in Georgia as possible. Any one of the "true" Italian places foot the bill. Personally we go to Biba's in Lawrenceville. The owner actually ran pizza joints in Brooklyn in the past, so he knows how to make a NY pizza. Down here though they will never get the crust the same as it seems to have something to do with the water or altitude.

Okay for Georgia, but...: I grew up Italian in the Northeast, and finding pizza worth eating was next to impossible in the three years I lived off the Atlanta Highway between Atlanta and Athens. Mellow Mushroom was as good as it got down there, the crust was good but the sauce was bland and American-tasting. So good to be home again...

Not bad, but not the best: For a chain, they are pretty good, but working in a Data Center, we see their boxes at least 9 times a week. Athens Pizza is some fine pizza. Made by Italians and Greeks, at all of the ones I've seen, it really slaps MM around pretty good.

you should try Rosa's: Rosa's downtown atlanta on broad street is the best!!! I turned my cousin to it and the people who own it are very nice! Everything they serve is great as close to New York as you will get!! and the cheesecake?! To die for! Try Rosa's

Delicious pizza at a very reasonable price.: I really enjoy eating at the Mellow Mushroom. I realize this is an umbrella statement, but the food, service, and experience are all excellent. Best of all, this can all be had without taking out a second mortgage! I have been eating at the 'Shroom for a few months now and I can safely say it is the best pizza I have ever had. The toppings are fresh and plentiful and their soda cups are much larger than most people can drink. In addition to this, the service is excellent. The waiter I usually get knows me by name and gets excellent reviews from other people that dine there. However, it should be noted that beyond him and one or two others the service takes a downward turn. The Mellow Mushroom is also a good place to watch weekend sports as there are always a number of rabid fans to cheer along with (or laugh at!). The flipside to this is that during peak periods the restaurant can get quite loud. This can be annoying when you are eating with someone and you can't hear what they are saying! Overall, I would definitely recommend Mellow Mushroom to anyone who likes pizza. They have other items on their menu as well, but I never have the heart to order anything but a pizza when I go there!

It's good ... but not THAT good.: Ok, Mellow Mushroom pizza is definitely good. But, I don't think it's the best pizza in Georgia for sure. It basically tastes to me like the type of pizza that you find at every small chain. The crust was good but they basically bathed the thing in olive oil. So, yeah, try some barbeque instead if your down in Georgia. Now, that is GOOD!

One of the few places of Atlanta I miss the most.: Having lived in LaVista Valley for almost 8 years, it became a happy indulgence of my life to walk up the hill to buying a Large Pepperoni & Mushroom pizza from the place. Occasionally I would sit in with the college kids from Emory or the yuppies from Buckhead to soak in the local chat, and news. While I never ordered much other than perhaps pizza and a pitcher, they have a modest menu of other fast food-esque Italian-American food. Worth the money, the atmosphere, and of course, the stone ground dough....

While visiting Chamblee GA me and my boyfriend decided to try Mellow Mushroom finally after seeing it at other locations. The outside patio was huge and great for warm nights... we opted to sit inside. The inside atmosphere was not fancy by any means, not what you would expect with a cool name like Mellow Mushroom. We ordered a full chicken and cheese sub and a 10'' (4 slice) house pizza and two drinks. The total was $27.00. The food was pretty good tho. The service wasnt great but we may have just landed unlucky and got a waitress who was a dud. Overall, the mellow mushroom is a good place to go if you want good pizza and are sick of pizza hut.

I thought they sold "magic" mushrooms: Those would likely improve the taste of their pizza. Then again, Mellow Mushroom comes from the state that calls spaghetti "sketti". Domino's and Papa John's are better choices if that the type of pizza you want. Otherwise, come to New York for a real slice.

Posted by
Andrew Wicker
01/21/2007

Bad Business: There is a MM across the street from Grady high school and they quit serving slices at three, 15 minutes before the school gets out. Besides, their pizza is too expensive in comparison to the local competition. Go to Little 5 Pizza, Savage, Mashi's, or Fellini's.

Posted by
a Yahoo! Local User
12/13/2006

Not bad but not the best: MM has been in Atlanta a long time and used to be a lot better when there were just one or two stores. Now it's very spotty. For the very best pizza take an afternoon drive to the GA mountains and visit Louies on the Lake on Lake Rabun. Louie is a native NY'er and serves the old timey NY pizza, the kind with the crunchy crust and the cheese that tastes like cheese.

Posted by
a Yahoo! Local User
12/13/2006

Well-known chain with mediocre pizza: Ten years ago MM won a few readers polls for pizza in Atlanta but it has gone totally corporate, and meanwhile several pizza joints have open with a MUCH better product. Elwood's Pizza in Brookhaven has a better sauce, better cheese, better toppings, and a MUCH better crust. But if you just want to watch the game and get druck, go to MM.

It's better than Dominoes I guess: I've lived in Atlanta approximately seven months and one of my co-workers loved Mellow Mushroom. She brought it to work a couple of times and the best description I could come up with is; very average and bland tasting sauce." If you are an individual who doesn't like spicy sauce, you might have a completely different opinion. There are several better pizza establishments in the Atlanta area.

Good for southern style pizza: Since NY style is one of the most famous types of Pizza, there is really no comparing the two, Mello Mushroom is in a class of its own. Its true they do try to make a healthier pizza, but being a former manager for one, I know that there pizza is chocked full of calories just like the rest. Over all though its still the good pizza, just a bit on the expensive side.

About Average-Certainly Not Super-Fantastic: I've eaten at several Mellow Mushroom locations, including Atlanta and Tuscaloosa. Mellow out at the Mellow Mushroom.....: There are a ton o' pizza places where you can get a slice, but the Mellow Mushroom is the only place where you can possibly find inner peace as well! Take a walk inside any MM and it will feel like walking into a 1960's hippy trip. The dress code is casual "come as you are", meaning you're welcome to enter as long as you're not nude with a shirt and shoes. Once inside pick your own table and have a seat. While surrounded by purple walls and a funky decor you will find the menu has a decent selection. From pizzas to calzones to hoagies to salads you will find each are on point. Picking your toppings will be a fun challenge as well as a healthy one. Some of their specialty pizzas are their Jerk chicken pizza with pineapples and their Mighty Meaty pizza with hamburger, bacon, pepperoni, ham and sausage. You just cant go wrong. They also have a BBQ pizza with chicken, onions and a zesty BBQ sauce and thats just the tip of the mushroom! On the more healthy side you can choose an all vegetable pizza with sun-dried tomatoes, onions, feta and provolone cheeses as toppings. You can also choose between tomatoe or 'white" sauce. They also have calzones stuffed with your choice of cheese, spinach, tomatoe, and mushroom, or meat calzones. With their hoagies you have over ten to choose from! And dont forget a a healthy salad along with pretzels. Mellow Mushroom uses only high quality ingredients such as low-fat mozzarella cheese; wheat germ flour; and premium meats that are low in fat. Vegetables are always fresh and all items are made to order (cept pretzels). Prices are moderate with a cheese calzone at $6.00 to a steak and cheese calzone at $8.00. Pizza by the slice start at $1.75 to a large pizza with five toppings feeding a crew of four people for under $21.00. So come on in a give the mellow guys at the Mellow Mushroom a try, its all peace and hair grease!

Awesome....: I have never been let down by mellow mushroom and I have been eating there for over 9 years. The food and ambiance creating an exceptional dining in or carrying out experience. The food is amazing, with toppings like artichokes and feta cheese crumbles, it beats anything you would get from national chain. Only drawback is that they do not deliver.

The best pizza place in town: It's open late, it's a 2 minute walk away, the service is always good and they have some nice beers to choose from. what's not to love?

Not the best in ATL: Marietta Pizza Company is much better. MPC has excellent airy crispy crust. MM crust is undercooked and tasteless.

mediocre pizza with mediocre taste: tastes like store bought pizza. Very bland. The crust is neither thick onr thin, which prefectly accentuates the blandness of the ingredients. If you like eating a warm salad on bread- eat here. If you crave the medley of ingredients that is pizza- look elsewhere.

Good for a Chain: I'm not a fan of chain resturants...but this is ok food. My favorite in Atlanta is a little bar named "The Elbow Room" in Buckhead that makes a to-die-for northern style pizza and only found this by a customer that found it by accident. My favorite closer to home is Capazzoi's in Marietta. Two brothers from Jersey that still call it a pie and still call a sub a grinder. After eating there, I cannot do a chain pizza anymore. I'd rather go to the grocery store and buy a $1.25 Jeno's frozen pie then do a chain pizza.

Mellow Mushroom?? The Best Pizza???: I don't know about that. I seem to remember a pizza joint called Godfather's Pizza and althoughwe no longer have the honor of having that establishment any longer......Mellow has a long long long way to travel if they can even come close to the Kingdom of Godfather's pizza!! Mellow mushroom is new here in Winston-Salem so that may be the reason people are swooning.....but I can get a Digorno's pizza and Mellow Mushroom pizza blindfold myself and would not be able to tell the difference.....plus i can save a lot more money with the frozen pizza.

Meh: Mellow Mushroom is all right, I suppose. The best pizza in the South is a little restaurant in Kingston, TN called "Mama Mia's." Mama's has fantastic pizza, amazing salads, out-of-this-world pasta, and greeeat sandwiches. It's a family-owned place and it shows that this place has been in business for decades!

Great pizza, good atmosphere, adequate service. If you go, you must like toppings - Mighty Meaty is excellent. Cheese Pizza - go elsewhere

amazing!: The first time I ever had Mellow Mushroom pizza was on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. I have a few friends who live there and they took us for pizza one day and I was blown away. The crust is amazing. Its got such a good flavor. The sauce is also excellent! I now own myself a Mellow Mushroom t-shirt thanks to their fantastic pizza. Try it sometime. You won't be disappointed.

To ScottJ: First of all scottj, you must be from up north so if you want "new york style" pizza I suggest you go back to "new york." Mellow Mushroom is not a new york style pizza establishment, nor have they advertised to be. And I do believe it originated in Atlanta. So before you give a fine establishment a very negative review, you should get your facts straight. Mellow Mushroom is some of the best pizza I have ever eaten. Not only the pizza, their menu consists of great salads, hoagies, and most have an international beer list a mile long. For those of you looking for the best MM experience, head to 309 King Street Charleston, SC.

Great Pizza: The MM here in Foley, AL is really good. The crust is what makes these pizzas. Great beer selection too, just wish they still carried Harp's on draft.
