It's funny how these reviews and classifications come about, and it always seems to beg the question, "Say's who?!" I certainly hope they don't get paid for these opinions, simply because I refuse to believe they exhausted the options available to make a well informed decision. True, we all have our preferences, and our palettes may vary in refinement, and this is inherently a completely subjective area of expertise, etc. However, these surveys don't seem to take into account certain facts: Have they won awards and acclaim from local reviewers? Have they consistently risen above others according to their track record? Is the criteria purely culinary, or does it include extraneous details like location, hours, beverage selection, demographic, etc.? Now, taking nothing away from Savage, they have a decor that is unique, a small but quaint patio, and a solid reputation for pizza. But as long as these opinions are getting thrown around, I personally believe that Cameli's Pizza (by the Kroger off Ponce) is superior across the board. First, better quality ingredients, better selection of ingredients, a wider array of dishes to choose from, and a more authentic taste. Second, a bigger patio, more seats inside, a full bar, and entertainment like a juke box and games, not to mention DJ'd events. Third, they are family owned and operated by people who bear the last name: Cameli. Not to say that qualifies the food, but they are Italian, and carry that tradition on in the food they make. But I beg you, whoever is reading this, don't believe me! Go and compare for yourself, because that is the only way you can truly know, and there will never be a review or award that can tell you as much as your own experience.
