Very overrated. Not a bad pizza but I agree with the other reviews, there are a lot of better places in the city. Try the original Leona's on Sheffield and Belmont. MUCH better thin crust, homemade sauce and better toppings. Crispy crust even in the middle of a large pie! Thats my regular stop after the ball game.
Putting a lot of salt on something does not make it good. and Home Run pizza is way too salty.

Home Run Inn ohhhhhhhhhh soooooooooo good: I use to live across from this place years ago. I always remember getting some pizza on the weekends, playing at the playground and smelling it all the time. I went back home after being gone several years and the place might of grown but the pizza DID NOT CHANGE it's the best pizza anyone could ever eat. I was thrilled to put my lips around that pizza and still taste that same great taste. If your ever in Chicago you MUST MUST MUST stop in and have some. You will not regret it.

Memories of Home: I first tried Home Run Inn pizza in 1966, when my parents took me there for the rare occasion when we ate out. Some things in life are destined to change: My brother and father have passed away, I have traveled all over the country and sampled pizza from various areas, and my old neighborhood is gone. Life happens, things change, but one constant that I can depend upon to bring back a taste of the old neighborhood is Home Run Inn Pizza. It's more than a pizza for me, it is a memorial to a life long gone. Even the frozen slice that I am forced to buy in Wisconsin brings me back to a better time and place. I can't explain it, but if you have experienced it, I don't need to.

I'm sorry to hhear about the quality of this pizza as it was one of the best in Chicago years ago. I lived in Chicago and moved about 17 years ago and the last time I visited I couldn't believe what happened to the neighborhood around the restaurant. It's become a slum area and dangerous to boot. I did notice the pizza wasn't as good as it used to be ,but still good. But that was about 7 years ago.Another neighborhood gone to the dogs.

Since I live in Chicago this makes me laugh. This pizza is not even in the top 10 in chicago. It is not the worst pizza, but I live in 3 quare mile Village south of Chicago and we have 2 better pizza places in our town. I have 4 better places that deliver to me. Only 2 of them are in my top 10 in chicago, and the best pizza I had in New York was Johns. Which would make my top 10 of all time. This is a stupid list because their is no way to try all the great pizza places in chicago.

Great Pizza Buffet!: Hey, they have great pizza maybe not as good as back in the day but still good. They have a pizza buffet during lunch hours only so make sure you check it out. They serve all kinds of pizza, cheese, pepperoni, supreme, hamburger etc, they also have a special dish each day, salads, etc. The buffet is not on the weekend (sad to say). It is busy on Fri/Sat nights but a very nice atmosphere during the weekdays. The original locations has the best pizza! Enjoy Ciao!

May, 1947: It was sometime that month and year my uncle gave me a dollar and told me to go to HRI for a pizza. Was told to bring back a small cheese and bring back the change. When I came back I heard complaints of taking so long. No one thought of calling in advance so I had to wait for the pizza. Finally came back with the pizza and gave my uncle his change, a nickle. Had my first piece of pizza that day. A center piece and it filled me up. Its been over 59 years since that day, I still remember some of the people that worked there and still remember one person that still works there, "Little Eddie" who manages the Darien store. Seen people work, retire and some pass away from HRI. Like the old motto goes, "You've tried the rest, now try the best". My Wife and I are up there in the years but we still go to one of the HRI's every so often. Could you stories that you wouldn't believe but that would take quite awhile.

Lou Malnati's is okay. I give it 3 stars because being a true chicagoan, we don't eat much deep dish pizza that is for tourists, so is Uno, Ginos and Due. A think pizza favorite (stuffed) is Giordano's. All of these are rated high because most tourists don't know about the best.
The BEST PIZZA in Chicago is Home Run Inn on 31st Street between pulaski and Cicero aves. The other Home Run Inns around the suburbs sometimes have too much salt, but still put out a great pizza. I even used Home Run Inn in my novel "Love's Bouquet". NY, your sausage has no flavor and you crust is bland and cardboard like. Home Run Inn was great according to my NY friends. Best thin pizza in the world.

The best of the best: I was born in Chicago and raised in Cicero. Home Run pizza is the only pizza that we would eat. I now live in Georgia and I would give anything for a Home Run pizza. If you eat there often or once in awhile you need to try the roastbeef sandwich, have them dip it in the juice after it is made and of course do not forget the sweet peppers. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I hope you try it, you will like it. I LOVE this pizza. Imagine my dilemna. I move to the DC area which has the worst pizza in the world! Then, while walking in my local Harris Teeter (grocery)at Pentagon City, I notice in the frozen aisle that Home Run Inn frozen pizza's are buy one get one free. I buy 5 and get 5 free. I now feel more at home in an entire year. It took me a year to figure out that Harris Teeter has one of my favorite frozen pizza's. Safeway here (Dominicks in Chicago) has Reggio's also. Which I was happy about also. My roommates tried Home Run Inn and Reggios and feel in love. My roommate said she has never had better pizza in her life. Makes sense cuz she grew up in Northern Virginia. So, I am happy they went commerical. Cuz now I can reap in the benefits. I had some last night.

Blah. Overrated. A chore to eat their pizza.
The trouble is many Americans are attuned to eating mediocre food, like featured at Home Run Inn. Their tomato paste-like sauce is much too sweet and salty and has that generic dried spice mix that 1,000 other places use. Add to that too much too salty cheese (most folks say more the cheese the better....wrong!). Finally their dough is oversalted, and baked to a mealy consistency. Combine these factors and you simply get junk food.
No wonder why so many people rave about their pizza. Also, their frozen pizzas are even worse, can they legally be called food? I wouldn't even feed a dog that stuff.
Home Run Inn fans: Ever wonder why you wake up parched with thirst after eating crud like this? Have your cholesterol & blood pressure checked lately?
For one alternative try Louisa's in Crestwood, they represent a more home-made style pizza in the Chicago style. Hi-quality crushed tomatoes, cheese and dough.

I love pizza pizza!: I have been eating Home Run Inn since I was a little girl. The pizza used to be the best in Chicago but they slipping off. The last time the pizza tasted salty and too grease, so the fell off and need to get back to being the greatest pizza spot.

So o o Satisfying: Home Run Inn pizza is great. The crust is flaky like a croissant. The sauce is just right and the toppings are abundant. I like the spicy Italian sausage. Cheesy, hot and gooey. Just like pizza should be.

Grew up on this pizza from the 31st street location over 50 years ago but I see they now have several locations in the Chicago suburbs. We have landed in Houston, via many other cities, and are able to buy the frozen Italian sausage pizza, our favorite, at our local grocery store. Have never found a pizza restaurant that has come close to Home Run Inn's pizza in any of the cities we have lived in.

Bad service with a15% service charge for two: The food was O.K. but to have to pay 15% service charge for two people just to sit down is just a bit sad.If they think there food is that good why ask for a 15$ service charge on the weekend 8p.m. until close from anyone eating in plus a tip. When I get back to Atlanta,Ga. I will enjoy Pizza hut even more!

Just an average pizza. Showed up on Sunday at 4pm. Got pizza in about 15 minutes. Was very busy and I could see it was a hit around here.
Sauce was sweet and ok. Nothing to jump out at you and say taste me again. Sausage was ok but nothing special, I was expecting more. Crust was a little too thick for a nice thin crust. I had them go light on the cheese as I dont like when you cut it, it fills the cracks back in. Well they cut back a little too much as had hardly any cheese. But most places dump on so much, so I know about the next time.
Not trying to be to critical here but it was not my favorite. Would I go back yes, but would not run right out tomorrow to have.
There are soooo many places to eat pizza and this was good but not what I would rate as the best or my favorite. many other people think so. But every thin crust is different also.
Gotta lot more to try.

It's nice and low key and have very good pizza!: I like the service, they are on time and energetic. The food is great from the appetizer all the way to the main course which is pizza. The setting is nice and it also have a bar with sports on every tv. It is not an expensive place. So you can take your family, friends, associates, etc because it all around nice place to have fun. Their only fault to me is there should be more around chicago and also other cities so they can have as much fun as us.

Old-fashioned sausage pizza is king at this South Side tradition where kids can be rowdy adults can get a drink and nobody goes home hungry. (See homeruninn.com for all locations.)

It was crispy and delicious and its delicate garlic goodness could be tasted in each bite. I thought both pizzas were great. I particularly liked the spinach and tomato pizza and everything tasted very fresh. I have to say it never...
