I'd eat it if someone else bought it for me, but I wouldn't ever choose it other many other pizza places. It's pretty average and overpriced.

Cheap eats, great pizzeria ambience at Shakes: Shakespeare's Pizza is Columbia's "local landmark"restaurant...You haven't been here until you've eaten there. Enjoy $2 slices M-F from 11am to 1pm (the best lunch deal in town, hands down) or drop in on the weekend/weeknights after MU loses another game (football OR basketball, you pick!) to KU, if you can squeeze in. The downtown location has the more "authentic" flavor (they've been there for 35 years or something), while the Shakes West locale, with its somewhat more "suburban" feel, is still a good place to go after the softball game to relive on-field glory. There is outdoor seating at both locations (the West location wins here) and the staff (typically "dressed down" to fit in with the atmosphere) is always friendly. Easily my favorite restaurant in town.

Still as good as I remember: I had lunch at Shakespere's recently and was surprised to find that their pizza by the slice was still so reasonably priced as well as tastey. I went to the newer location near Hyvee and was also pleasantly surprised that they maintained much of the flavor of the original one regarding decor...exposed brick, old tin signs, tin styled ceiling and even the wooden signs showing the size of the pizzas are almost identical to the original downtown location. They have the best pizza in town!

Good pizza joint: Good pizza, fresh made dough makes it even better. Skip the sandwiches though. I've only tried one and it was a mess.

Local Pizza Dive: This place is great, you feel right at home when you walk in. All your friends are there hanging out and you can see them make the pizza right there in front of you. They have a bar if you just want drinks, but I recommend the pizza, especially during their by-the-slice special! This place is pretty popular, so don't be suprised if there is a long line and the staff can be a little grumpy, but it is all part of the experience!

One of Columbia's highlights: This buisness has been up and running for as long as I have been here, and considering I was born and raised here, I think 30 years says something. And just like the city growing, so has this resturant. It has some of the coolest peeps you will meet. The food, just excellent, hand tossed, right in front of your eyes. The atmophere, with antique historic decerations, along every inch of the establishment. THere is no reason not finding something to like about this Pizzeria, if you want some good food, great service, splendid personality. You can't do no wrong, plus it's cheap on the pocket book, and if you ever get a chance to see one of there ads in the local columbia add sheet, some of the zanist, funny ads are from them, plus a nice coupon to save alil wad.

its ok: One of the better known pizza places in town, but not the best, however it does have the most choices for toppings and crust. I never have been a large fan as the crust is hard to chew.

A Columbia Landmark: The original is right off campus. I remember going there even when I was in college, a few years ago. It has the Columbia feel and the food is great! Fresh everything! Try it, you won't be disappointed. Have you had a piece, today?

I lived in Columbia for 12 years and I had to eat here at least once a week. Best pizza i have ever had, best whole wheat crust pizza in the world. Incredible atmosphere in both locations and very good ownership. Its a landmark for Columbia and Mizzou!

Still alive after 30 years of eating there!: It's a dump, but if you order thin crust it's one of the best. Primary problem is inconsistent quality and do they EVER clean those ovens????

So I just moved to Columbia and had to try the local things. This is something I would certainly get some one else to pay for. Our hospital brings it in for free all the time and I've eaten in the resturant at least four times now and I have yet to eat pizza that is anything like what people to describe it. It's expensive and it just isn't very good. The crust really does taste like cardboard, perhaps some seasoning or something. And it's always dry. You should certainly go there once to get the "full Columbia experience" I would just suggest getting a coupon or something because as far as pizza goes, I would much rather have any pizza chain over Shakespeares. So far, Shakespeare would be at the bottom of my list for pizza choices in Columbia.

I have eaten a lot of different pizza in a lot of different towns. This place is average at best. The locals really like it for the nostalgia and historic aspect and uniqness but as far as the actual pizza is concerned mine is usually burned and at its best is no better than most other places plus it is rather pricey for what you get.

Not very good: I have tried eating at Shakespeares Pizza several times. The pizza is never very good. I think people that like their pizza have never had really good pizza. The crust is like crackers. The sauce tastes like it came from a can. The cheese tastes like it came from a can too. The service is the only thing worse than the pizza. If you ever call in to order a pizza don't expect them to be friendly or helpful.

Ordinary pizza. Too much cheese. Crust too thick. I don't think the people that make the pizza care much about their product. The restaurant is noisy.

My favorite local pizza: I can't stand most pizza, especially pizza chains. Their crust taste like cardboard and their cheese is greasy and their topping are rather tasteless. But Shakespears is a dining experience. The crust tastes good, the sauce tastes good, the toppings tastes good. The veggies are fresh, the meats flavorful and I can eat them at least twice a week without getting burned out on pizza. You know a pizza is great when you order the cheese pizza and you get excited about it.

Truly unique in every way. The college mixed with family atmosphere to the employees to the ovens, this pizza is very good and lots of great toppings. My favorite is the canadian bacon, artichoke hearts and pepper cheese.

Shakespeares West & on 9th Street: 2 FABULOUS Pizza places! Pizza on 9th has the college crowd and West has more of a family atmosphere. Pizza is GREAT at both locations! Try the Pepperoni and Mushroom on Wheat. Thick pepperonis and REAL mushrooms! Or you can try the tomato, spinach and artichoke pizza (A lunchtime favorite!)My little ones loves to play with a ball of dough while they are waiting for their Pizza! This is the one place that everyone in my family agrees on!

I may be a little biased with my love for Shakespeare's having attended MU and being a product of two MU alumni. But if you are looking for great pizza in Columbia look no further. Should be noted that my profile pic for this site is of me at Shakespeare's!

Ah Shakespeare's I've been to the place so many times now I could probably walk from the front door to the register to the bar and then to the bathroom while wearing a blindfold. It's a really fun place to visit and in a place like Columbia it's one of the top hang-out spots there is. Why? Well this is a pizza place first and foremost and make no mistake: the food is excellent. The staff is super-friendly but if you're at the bar expect a maddeningly long wait on Fridays and Saturdays (particularly for football games). They always keep a good sense of humor about them if they aren't always prompt and the atmosphere makes it a place where having fun is tremendously easy. As for the beer selection well for a place that keeps its main focus on pizza they keep a really nice assortment of bottles in the bar. Bell's Rogue New Belgium Duvel Chimay Red are some of what you can expect when you go in there. The tap selection is the usual Columbia arrangement of Blue M...

The quirky pizza joint in downtown Columbia is a Mizzou icon a combination of the laid-back nature of Freddie's along with the to-die-for pizza of Mangia. Funky employees toss pies in the windows right more... [1 review]

Ate there because people raved about the pizza. It was ok... I didn't think it was the BEST pizza in Columbia. Plus I had to wait an hour for my pizza... Not worth it for me.

Be sure to look for the can of WD-40 in the refrigerator and be sure to ask your order-taker why it's there!
