Memories of my childhood: A great experience eating pizza at Maria's with the Betters and the Dents and the gang from the Imperials of St. Patricks

I grew up and live in the Chicago area. This pizzeria is as good as any of the classic, thin crust Chicago neighborhood joints that have been around for decades. I've come to a pretty solid conclusion when it comes to thin crust pizzas in the Great Lakes area *or perhaps anywhere) - if a place has been in business since the 1950's or earlier - it's got to be great. A few examples: Maria's (Milwaukee) 1957 Zaffiro's (Milwaukee) 1954 Wells Brothers (Racine) 1921 (pizza later) Frank's (Appleton) 1955 Marie's (Chicago) 1950 Rocco's (South Bend) 1951 Vito and Nick's (Chicago) 1949 Home Run Inn (Chicago) 1942 Aurelio's (Chicago area primarily) 1959 Q's Pizzeria (Hillside IL) 1959

My husband was born and raised in Milwaukee for the first eight years of his life. He has wonderful childhood memories of Maria's and still think's Maria is sexy in her little outfit. We try to stop whenever we are in town and are planning to buy pizzerias for his parents and sisters and their families and bringing them back to central Wi for everyone to enjoy.

I ate at this place once and let me tell you, once was enough. The pizza sauce looked and tasted like spaghetti O,s in a can. yuck!

LOVED the pizza but couldn't believe they charged $2 for a small (about 10 oz) styrofoam cup of soda....outrageous.

Best Ever: I have been going to Maria's for over 30 years. It is a unique place and the people are wonderful. I now have my grandchildren going with me.. Pizza is excellent and has not changed in taste over all the years.

Marias is the bench mark in pizza bar none. I have been all over this country and have found very few places that come close to their pizza. I no longer live in Milwaukee area but when I return Marias is always on the must visit list. I have been a repeat satisfied customer since they were at the old address.

I have been going to Maria's Pizzaria for 42 years. During those years I have tried other pizzas and there is none that compare to this pizza. The antipasto salad is the best anywhere, and believe me I have tried them at a number of restaurants. The garlic bread and lasagna are better than anywhere also. You have got to go to this restaurant and try everyone of their dishes at which point you will never go anywhere else!!

Excellent Pizza: I've been going to Maria's Pizza since i could remember. The pizza is really good because its a thin crust pizza. The sause is sweet. They are very generous with the toppings they put on. The service is excellent. The people that work there are friendly, outgoing, and the same crew thats been there for over 15yrs. There is nothing bad that i could say about Maria's Pizza.

Best thin crust ever: Go for the large. It's only a dollar more. This is a great thin crust pizza. It's about 14"X24" long. The Special (Cheese, Sausage, Mushroom, Onion is under $15.00. I've been going there for over 30 years. Everyone is very nice too.

Marvelous Maria's!: We've been eating Maria's Pizza for years now, and it hasn't changed one bit. It only comes in one type of crust - thin, crispy, & bubbely! The toppings are simply awsome with huge chunks of sasuage, fresh black olives put on after the pizza is cooked so that they don't shrivel, and more. It's a pizza you have to at least try once in your lifetime, and you can't go wrong for the price either! Try it, you'll love it!

The BEST PIZZA anywhere. I've been going to Marias Pizza since they were on 6th and Mitchell.. You just can't beat the real thing.. The sausage is fresh and real.. The thin crust is GREAT and so are the folks who work there.. Service is excellent if you call ahead for take out..

Maria's sets the bar for thin crust pizzas in Milwaukee. I've never had a bad pizza here and have been eating it for 15 years. Service is always friendly, but can be quite slow on Friday and Saturday nights due to the large crowds and carry-out orders... it's best to avoid these times because it is a small place with limited staff. Any other time, expect great service, eclectic decor, and a super tasty pizza that will have you coming back for more! Just writing this review and thinking about Maria's makes my mouth water!!!

I hate to say it after all the great reviews but the pizza was horrible. The cheese tasted cheap. It was so greasy that it was soggy, not good soggy - but wet and mushy. The sauce was tasteless. The garlic bread was dry and burnt. I really wanted to like it but it just wasn't good at all. The only pro is that the pizza is big and cheap - but not good. Maybe the thin crust just isn't the way to go?

I LIKE TO BUY THE HUGE PAN THIN CRUST AND SET MY G.I. JOES ON TOP, SO AS TO LOOK LIKE THEYRE FIGHTING ON A SAUCY CHEESEY BATTLEFIELD. THEN WHILE THEYRE AT WAR, I SPRINKLE PARMESAN OVER THE TOP BECAUSE THERES NOTHING LIKE A QUARREL IN THE SNOW.

This is superior pizzaperiod. My favorite in Milwaukee is Zafirros and this is a lot like a Zafirro's pie. I would rate Maria's crust as superior (just) to Zafirro's and Zafirro's sauce as superior (just) to Maria's. It's difficult to pick a winner between the two and that's saying a lot. Like I said this is a superior pie!
