New York’s mayor has declared Di Fara Pizza in Brooklyn as the city’s best pizza. If you’d like to give it a try, you’ll have to wait in line.
Di Fara Pizza can be found in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. The mayor is not the only one singing its praises, the pizza has been recommended by Anthony Bourdain, Zagat and the Village Voice.
On a holiday, you might find a wait of four hours. The average wait on weekends is a 2 hour wait. Domenico DeMarco, the 77 year old owner, opened the business in 1965. Five of his seven children are in the family business. The shop’s tried and true ingredients include Italian flour, San Marzano tomatoes, Israeli basil and two different kinds of mozzarella cheese.
Guests can enjoy either a round or a square pizza pie. The round is hand-tossed, while the square has a thicker crust.
