Domino's Launches Facebook Game to Promote New Pizza

For pizza joints, both independent and corporate, social media has become an important and almost necessary method of communicating with their loyal fan base and promoting new products. It’s odd, though, that a pizza joint would actually take the time and spend the money to develop a Facebook video game to advertise what is sure to be a limited time product.

Domino’s Pizza, well known for their revamped, garlic-y crust and buffalo chicken kickers, has taken to Facebook to advertise its new Saucy BBQ Stuffed Crust pizza with a video game.

Keeping with the “southern” theme, the Showdown game pits players in a showdown with “BBQ Pete,” wherein you answer a series of questions and move a few steps forward with each right answer. It’s described as being “just like a classic high noon showdown,” though one might have reason to believe this isn’t entirely true.

If for some reason you feel the need to annoy people with more Facebook game invites, you can invite people to join you and fight the “infamous pizza rustler.” Of course, there are perks to playing – the team of cowboys at the top of the Domino’s Showdown leaderboard will win a pizza party.

It’s an ambitious and incredibly interesting move, and the added bonus of winning a pizza party for playing is pretty brilliant from a marketing standpoint. Simon Wallis, the director of sales and marketing at Domino’s, believes this to be the perfect way to better connect fans with the company. “We know that Domino’s fans love to get involved on Facebook,” he said. “The Showdown gives them a great reason to get stuck in and have fun with our new crust."

The team behind the development of the game is 247, the digital arm of Arena Media. Creative is handled by CHS Creative.
