Pie Five Pizza is preparing for its first restaurant opening in Tampa, Florida. 18 franchise units have been awarded to Matt LaPorta, retired Cleveland Indians player and former University of Florida baseball star. The arrival of the first Pie Five Pizza restaurants is slated for early 2015.
“What can I say, what Italian doesn’t love pizza? For the longest time I’ve wanted to open up a cool pizza place like this. I guess you could call pizza my new passion,” says LaPorta. “So when Josh told me about Pie Five, and my family and I tried it out for ourselves, I knew this was it. The operational model is excellent, the company’s leadership is top notch and the food is fantastic. I’m convinced Pie Five is going to be a huge hit in this area.”
The pizza franchise is growing quickly. There are over 20 locations nationwide. Pie Five Pizza offers guests over a million combinations of pizzas as well as specialty pies with four crusts to choose from. They are marketed at one low price and are ready in five minutes.
Matt LaPorta is partnering with fellow MLB retiree, Josh Fields as well as two restaurant operators: Brandon Birdwell and Jeff Engle. CEO for Pie Five Pizza, Randy Gier says, “We couldn’t have asked for better franchise partners in Tampa than Matt and Josh. Josh’s hard work in Oklahoma (Fields is developing franchises in Oklahoma with NFL player Billy Bajema) speaks for itself, and I can’t wait to celebrate his success in Florida as well. The fact that he was so eager to share our franchise opportunities with people like Matt and Billy speaks volumes about our growing enterprise. We’re very pleased to welcome every one of these guys to our team.”
