General Mills Reveal 5 Pizza Trends

Food editor Madison Mayberry from General Mills Kitchen revealed 5 pizza trends during the 46th Pillsbury bake off in Las Vegas. The celebration basically featured Food news seminars and of course, the revelation of pizza. 

According to the editor, the top five trends in pizza are: 

1. Fresh Twist: Peachy Chicken Pizza with Herb Salad – "We're seeing a lot of farm-to-table, which isn't new, but it continues to have a lot of momentum and a lot of validity," said Mayberry. "It's a bright flavour like a herb salad vs a traditional heavy pizza."

2. Fun and Playful: The Pudgy Pig Pizza – "You'll see a lot of crazy names and wacky combinations," she said. "It's the play-with-your-food movement, but it's moving beyond cute food crafts and extending into a playful nature in developing recipes."

3. Ethnic, Expanded: Moroccan Madness Pizza – "It's the idea that you're going beyond the old ethnic," said Mayberry. "We're seeing heat around Moroccan and Caribbean flavours. Also, flavours from Africa or Chinese on a pizza, topped with egg plant and zucchini, and mint and oregano."

4. Superfoods = Flavor: Pesto, Kale and Sweet Potato Pizza – "You're adding nutrition but you're also adding flavour. You're not just adding kale because it's healthy, it's because you like the flavour of it. It's really delicious."

5. Elevated Classics: The Cheesy 'Shroom Pizza – "This trend deals with familiar ingredients but maybe they're taken up a notch," Mayberry said. "We're seeing better cheeses and unique, high-quality ingredients."
