Hulu to Offer Pizza Ordering Thru Ad

The Hulu streaming service will soon be streaming more than just digital content. They have partnered with Pizza Hut to insert an advertisement in their streaming that allows customers to order a pizza within the ad.

The new feature is a combination of Pizza Hut’s ordering system and Hulu’s interactive advertising system. This type of set up may become more common as different companies strive to take advantage of interactive ad options.

Mike Hopkins is the chief executive of Hulu. He promoted the Pizza Hut ad campaign at his company’s annual presentation for advertisers. He dubbed the ad an “in-stream purchase unit”. He believes that other advertisers will be able to use it to their advantage in the future.

When a customer is watching a TV show, the show will immediately resume after an order is placed. Hulu includes ads on both their free streaming and their paid streaming services. Hopkins was also promoting additional advertising innovations including 360-degree mobile ads.

The Hulu free service is currently available on desktop computers. Their subscriber service, Hulu Plus, is available on phones, tablets and other smart devices. By this summer, Hulu anticipates offering some of its free services on phones.
