Organ Stop Pizza, A Unique Place

The Organ Stop Pizza restaurant is a unique place. It opened in 1972 in Phoenix. The original Mesa location opened in 1975.

Back in 1975 a small cheese pizza cost only $1.33, while a giant pizza cost $5.71. The restaurants actual pipe organ has 6,000 pipes. Approximately 7.3 million guests have been entertained by a variety of organists while dining at the Mesa Organ Stop. Since the place can seat 700 at one time, it gives guests the feel of being in a theater.

A number of famous people have made a point of stopping at the restaurant including Greg Louganis, Neil Lomax, Rod Carew and Johnny Bench.

The organ used in the Mesa restaurant started as a rebuilt organ from Denver. Pipes and other pieces have been added through the years. The largest of the pipes is more than 3 feet wide and is over 36 feet tall.

The most played song in the organ’s history is Chattanooga Choo Choo.
