Papa's Pizza Says Good Bye

After 40 years, Papa’s Pizza is finally giving up and it wasn’t easy news to swallow. It was bad enough that sales weren’t that high but what made it worse were the high taxes and an anticipated new competitor in town.

Though many locals opt for Papa’s good old Pie, the revenue still wasn’t enough to keep them running and fighting for their spot.

The good news is, closing is just temporary as the new owner (who took over 4 years ago) plans on opening again in a new location. Oak Forest was just too expensive to stay into.

"The name Papa's will still be around, but we're not generating enough business to stay here. And the taxes are way too high. So we'll probably take a break and come back later." Said owner Sam Tuhaimer.

In its last business days, especially Thursday, the restaurant was flooded with people to taste Papa’s Pizza one last time.

"All of our customers who have been coming for years came” said Nahu Tuhaimer, the wife of owner Sam.

Too bad Cicero Ave won’t have the same great tasting pizza anymore because according to Country Club Hills Alderman Vincent Lockett, their pies are "probably the best pizza in the Chicagoland area.”

But there won’t be any fret for customers as Tuhaimer plans on keeping his customers posted. Once the restaurant reopens, he will inform all his customers.

"Anywhere we go, we're going to let people know," he said.
