Pizza Hut Opens NFL Season with a Pizza Party at Times Square New York

New York’s Times Square was filled with pizza slices as Pizza Hut held a kickoff party dubbed as the “world’s greatest pizza party” commemorating the start of the 2013 NFL regular season and expand its reach by way of its long time partner Fox Sport’s Fox NFL Sunday.

A 53 foot 18 wheeler mobile kitchen equipped with pizza ovens was parked at Times Square and handed out 5,500 pizza slices all day long which also marked Pizza Hut’s 55th year anniversary.

Starting off the football season right, Pizza Hut wanted to highlight consumer’s experience with their world famous pizzas. Chief Marketing Officer Kurt Kane stated that no other pizza brand can match their household presence and in celebration of the start of the football season, a huge pizza party was celebrated in New York City just like with any household celebrating opening night across the US.

Twitter followers are also going to get slices of pizza from Pizza Hut when they post on their Twitter page with the hashtag “WorldsGreatestPizzaParty”.

The partnership with NFL Network has made Pizza Hut the sponsor of Fox’s NFL pregame show and with Fox doing its first pregame show at Times Square, Pizza Hut decided to hold a major public event to mark the start of the regular season.

With partner Fox Sports beginning their game broadcast at New York and ending at nearby Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, Pizza Hut’s director of public relations Doug Terfehr said in statement that the event held at Times Square to start the football season and also to celebrate their 55th year improves the game viewing experience for fans and consumers alike making them the pizza brand most recognized with football aficionados.

Football, specifically the NFL is recognizable with the pizza brand Papa John’s, the official pizza sponsor of the NFL with Denver Broncos quarterback and Papa John’s franchisee Peyton Manning as its model.

Pizza Hut however, according to Terfehr, still has a huge share during game day over Papa John’s. With its long time partnership with Fox Sports and the size and reach of Pizza Hut across the country, their brand is still the most recognizable among consumers who watch football games especially on Sundays.

Pizza Hut is a brand under Yum! Brands Inc. with over 10,000 stores in more than 90 countries.
