Pizza Restaurant Named for Beatles Song

Patty and Casey Absey named their pizza parlor after a famous Beatles song written by Paul McCartney. With McCartney playing in their neck of the woods, they’d love to cook for his band, but they were too busy to take time off to attend his concert.

McCartney played in Fargo, North Dakota for the first time this past Saturday. He was at the Fargodome, which holds about 17,000 fans. The Abseys own Blackbird Woodfire which offers vegan choices for folks like McCartney who do not eat meat.

The couple are longtime Beatles fans. They chose the name of their restaurant because of the lyrics in the song Blackbird.

Patty says, “We wanted something sentimental that meant something to us, not something that was necessarily catchy to the public. The blackbird has a negative connotation to some, but it also symbolizes luck and prosperity. I went back and listened to the song a couple of times again and thought, this is perfect.”

The Fargodome was originally built as a stadium for North Dakota State University football, but it has also played host to other acts like McCartney including Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Garth Brooks, Elton John, Billy Joel and more.
