Forget Angry Birds, there’s a new sheriff in town. If the trailer is any indication, “Pizza vs. Skeletons” looks to be one of the most entertaining and downright zany side-scrolling platform game created for the iPhone.
Developed by Riverman Media LLC, “Pizza vs. Skeletons” has the player taking control of a giant, angry, scowling pizza pie and, well, destroying skeletons. But it’s more than that. As the trailer indicates, each level is incredibly diverse, offering numerous methods of destroying the skeletons all while immersing the player in a number of beautifully rendered environments.

You control the pizza through 100 insane levels, facing all sorts of challenges that are guaranteed to get a laugh out of you (or make you hungry). According to Kotaku, the myriad stages include an all out brawl with skeletons throwing spears; outer space and the deep blue sea; and my personal favorite, running into and busting up some obstacles (such as pyramids) to save puppies.

Of course, one of the biggest concerns are the controls. After all, video games on smart phones aren’t exactly well known for their smooth controls. According to Kotaku, transitioning between rolling and stopping to perform a variety of moves is incredibly smooth, making gameplay all the more enjoyable.
Like most games, you can download “Pizza vs. Skeletons” for free, though it includes ads which, if you’ve ever played a free game on your smart phone, can become incredibly annoying. If you prefer a more positive game-playing experience, the entire game is only $2.99 at the iTunes store. Not a bad price for a game promised to include “insane variety,” which is al you really need to enhance the replay value.
