To many, pizza is a near perfect food, but it comes in an unwieldy box. The box takes up too much space in the refrigerator if there are leftovers, and it’s even awkward to throw away.
GreenBox has come up with an innovative redesign of the traditional pizza box. At first glance it looks like a traditional pizza box, but it is very different. The top of the box is perforated. This allows it to easily be separated into 4 pieces that are designed to be used as serving plates. The bottom of the box can be refolded for storage. When refolded, it is half the size of a the full box, making it much easier to fit in the refrigerator.
The president of GreenBox, Jennifer Wright, says the design was originally intended to be used at birthday parties or picnics. The company is finding out, however, that the design is a favorite among office workers. After ordering a late night pizza at the office, workers find that the box is easy to store in the office fridge, or equally easy to use to transport a few leftover slices home.
Various pizza box distributors across the US are using the boxes. The boxes are constructed from recycled and recyclable corrugated cardboard.
