For those seeking to drop a few pounds but unwilling to give up the finer things in life, a low-carb, or ketogenic, diet is often the way to go. One of the staples of a ketogenic diet is bacon, considered to be the holy grail of foods for those seeking to cut out carbs. While it tastes great on a pizza, pizza is unfortunately a big no-no on the diet. There are ways, however, to get bring bacon and pizza together in a uniquely satisfying way.
To make a bacon crust pizza, you will need the following ingredients:
-16 slices of thick cut bacon
-1 cup of marinara sauce
-1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
-Toppings to taste
To start, you want to make a bacon weave. Weave the bacon together to form a giant slab of weaved bacon. Place on some parchment paper and bake until crispy. As it bakes, the bacon fuses to itself, creating a giant, crispy piece of bacon. Do not pan fry the bacon. If you do, you run the risk of it shriveling too much to use or breaking apart when you flip it.
Remove from the oven when done and apply the marinara sauce, cheese, and whatever toppings you'd like. Put back in the oven and bake until the cheese is bubbly. Remove, let cool, then serve!
No carbs, and you still get to enjoy everything that makes pizza awesome.
