Caramelized Onion Pizza

Onions are one of the most popular toppings for a pizza, and can just as easily serve as an enhancement to a pizza (such as a buffalo chicken pizza) as it can a standalone topping. One of the great things you can do with the onion is spice up the flavor by caramelizing it and making a caramelized onion pizza.

To make this pizza, you will need the following ingredients:

-1 pizza crust
-1 large onion thinly sliced
-1 clove of garlic, diced
-1 cup of mozzarella cheese
-2 tablespoons of olive oil
-1 cup of marinara sauce

To caramelize the onions, add the onions and the garlic to an olive oil-coated pan. Cook over medium heat until the onions are brown-ish in color. This can take upwards of fifteen minutes and will make the onions very tender.

Once the onions are done, set them aside. Take the pizza crust and cover it with the marinara sauce, making sure to spread it all the way to the edged. Next, add the cheese, then the onions, followed by a little bit more cheese.

If you so desire, you can add any number of different of toppings to the pizza, such as bacon, tomato slices, mushrooms, and even prosciutto. Once you've sufficiently added the desired toppings, pop that sucker into an oven pre-heated to 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

A caramelized onion is a tasty and fun way to make pizza night a little more unique. It can encourage picky eaters to come out of their shells, and thus open up a whole new world of foods.
