Fig and Goat Cheese Pizza Recipe

While pizzas with your standard, everyday toppings - pepperoni, mushrooms, black olives, and the like - are all well and good (especially for picky eaters such as young children), you'd be doing yourself a real favor by branching out and making a pizza with some more...esoteric toppings. How about figs and goat cheese? Are those esoteric enough for you? Well, they certainly are for this pizza recipe.

To make a fig and goat cheese pizza, you will need the following ingredients:

-1 pizza crust (homemade or pre-made)
-5 fresh figs
-4-6 ounces of goat cheese
-1 cup of mozzarella cheese
-1 tbsp. Olive oil

Although it's not listed on the ingredients, this pizza can have additional ingredients, usually a meat, added to help make it more diverse and flavorful. Several recipes can be found online that include prosciutto, bacon, and mushrooms, so your decision to additional toppings is entirely up to you.

To start, slice the figs in half and set aside. Next, take the pizza crust and lightly brush the top of it with olive oil. Make sure you don't use too much, or it could make the pizza crust too soggy.

Next, sprinkle a very small amount of mozzarella cheese on the crust, then arrange the figs (cut side up), goat cheese, and whatever additional toppings you decide to use evenly on top of the crust. Finally, top with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.

Finally, toss the pizza (not literally!) into an oven pre-heated to 375 degrees and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the crust is nice and crispy.

Conversely, you can take advantage of gorgeous summer weather and the flavor of a grill by grilling the pizza. Be careful not to let any of the toppings or the crust itself if you use a homemade kind drop through the grill surface and ruin the pizza.
