Spicy Three-Pepper Pizza Recipe

They say that some like it hot. Even though the saying refers to jazz music and the hilarious Billy Wilder movie of six decades ago with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and the inimitable Marilyn Monroe, this spicy pizza is also very hot and not for everyone.

 Created in May of 2010 by Kate Merker and Sara Quessenberry, this recipe takes about one half hour to make and is best served with a salad of mixed greens.

It is not a low-calorie dish, as it will cost you per serving 662 of them as well as 74 carbs, but it is worth it once in a while and the gym is open tomorrow if you really feel that bad about it.

Ingredients

cornmeal for the pan

1 pound plain or whole-wheat pizza dough, thawed if frozen

3/4 cup marinara sauce

2 cups grated Gruyère

1 sliced red bell pepper

1 sliced poblano pepper

8 whole pepperoncini peppers

kosher salt and black pepper

6 cups mixed greens

2 tablespoons store-bought Italian dressing

Directions

1. Heat oven to 425° F. Sprinkle a rimmed baking sheet with the cornmeal. Shape the dough into a large round and place on the prepared baking sheet.

2. Top with the marinara sauce, Gruyère, bell pepper, poblano pepper, and pepperoncini; season with 1/8 teaspoon each salt and pepper.

3. Bake until golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes.4. Toss the greens with the dressing and serve with the pizza.
