Papa John’s showed good 4th quarter results for 2013 and they show lot of opportunity for growth. The chain opened 132 restaurants during that quarter and 265 throughout the year. Of those opened, 183 were international and 82 were in North America. This brings the company’s total to 4,428, 3,286 in North America and 1,142 in international locales.
Papa John’s offers some competition to the larger brands of Domino’s and Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut is owned by Yum! brands which also owns KFC and Taco Bell. Domino’s has 10,886 stores with 5,900 of those in international markets. Pizza Hut has 7,846 locations in the United States, 1264 in China, 367 in India and 5,940 in international locations.
Pizza Hut is performing well in international locations, but showing a bit of a decline in the United States. Domino’s is focused on international expansion. Papa John’s does not have the numbers of locations that its competitors have, but it is making up for that in its quality offerings. Their slogan is “Better Ingredients. Better Pizza”. Their strategy is to present a different product to the market including ingredients like fresh-packed tomato sauce, unbleached flour and other quality ingredients.
