Awesome: This place makes the best sandwiches ever. I haven't really tried anything else, but the sandwiches are awesome. Just a tad on the expensive side, but very good.

SO Good!!: I love their torpedo subs. I think I've had the pizza and pasta, but I really can't get away from their torpedo's. Excellent place!!

The best Calzone: When I was in college, I used to work at Blockbuster Video (right next door to Gus's) and I would frequent the little shop. Gus and George were the best and they always remembered me and what I liked to get...a hawaiian calzone. Since having their calzones, I have yet to find a place that can even begin to compare. Gus's is just the best! I hope to visit again soon. Jenna S.

Great deal, great food, good portions: One of my favorite sandwich in San Diego. My favorite is the sandwich salad combo. The bread is excellent and shredded lettuce with a hint of italian dressing is just perfect. I don't like cold food for lunch so I generally request they toast the bread in their pizza ovens. It really make the sandwich taste really good. I've tried the Turkey brest and I would recommend it also. If you work near point Loma, this place is worth a try. Most of the locals know about it already. Support family own restaurant and you won't be dissapointed with the portions.

Awesome Philly!!: Best Philly in San Diego. Great atmosphere. The gyros are great as well. I could go on, because their whole menu is 5 star for a Sub shop.

Pricey, but delicious: A little pricey, but so good. The pizza is the best in the area. The spaghetti dinner is around $9, but plenty of food. You get spaghetti covered in mozzerella, garlic bread and a salad.

Best sandwich place I've found in San Diego to date. Subs are huge and excellent - no skimping. Pizza is actually really good too. Gyros is also great with the meat carved right off the spindle. Good stuff. I'd say as far as sub shops go, 5 stars, all the way. Personally, I didn't like the pastrami because it was sooo salty...but, other than that, nothing but the best IMO.

What I miss most about San Diego: When I lived in San Diego we would go to Gus's almost every day for lunch. The Torpedo Sub is the best sub in the world! Since we left San Diego I have tried to make it at home, and its just not the same! It's a great mom and pop sub shop! When we go back to San Diego we will make it a point to go to Gus's!

When you first bite into the pastrami sandwhich the flavors are difinitely present. But hte problem is that you must only take one bite. The salt content is too too much. I was drinking water for the whole day just to rehydrate myself.

gus's is good: gus's makes some great sandwiches, the bread is toasted in their deck oven. i almost always get the hot pastrami, better than tops or the hat, two of my l.a. favorites. add pickles to this salty sandwich, the vinegar will help cut through the sodium

I love Gus's. Its good eats. Huge servings of good food for great prices. Great subs but explore the menu because a lot of hidden Gems. Avocado burger is awesome and the torpedo is a crazy good sub. To sum up Gus's its decent food in a relaxed environment with huge servings and great prices. If you do get a sub go with the 6 or 9 inch cause unless your 400pounds or a professional eater (why would you do that) you will have 3 meals on your hands. Its big.

Gus's has been a favorite for years - no one puts as much meat on their gyros as they do (which for me is a great thing). And linguica sandwiches/pizza? Fuggeddaboutit. But the last few years their quality has gone down and prices up. Having moved away I have been disappointed with their direction. Still good and worth a trip but needs to go back to the old formula.
