THE AMBIANCE IS NICE AND THE FOOD WAS REALLY GOOD AND AT A REASONABLE PRICE. WE DID HOWEVER HAVE TO WAIT A REALLY LONG TIME FOR OUR FOOD BUT THE MANAGER CAME OVER RIGHT AWAY AND APPOLOGIZED FOR THE HOLD UP WHICH WAS GREAT. WE APPRECIATED THAT, AND WILL MORE THAN LIKELY GO BACK BECAUSE OF THAT.

Amazing food and great service in a stylish setting - who could ask for more? Oh, and did I mention that it's reasonably priced? I had a wonderful experience dining al fresco on their street front patio. The artisan pizzas are the perfect size meal and the tapas menu is eclectic and extensive. Highly recommended for an inexpensive evening out.

My husband and I were in town for our anniversary and were looking for something unique for dinner. We walked in to a nearly empty restaurant, not unexpected for a Sunday night and were told to sit wherever we wanted. As we were looking over the menu a waitress was setting up several tables around us with silverware and the like. Not once did she ask if we had questions or wanted anything to drink. Another group came in and sat next to us, by now we had been there about five minutes. She immediately took their order, delivered the check to the table next to us and STILL left us sitting there waiting for service. In the meantime we observed several other servers kept eyeing our table but never came over to take our order either. After sitting at the table for almost ten minutes with not being greeted we left, went to Buca de Peppo and had a WONDERFUL anniversary dinner.

The salads and pizza are decent for the price. Unfortunately I will not be going back since I looked at my credit card bill... The waitress added extra money on to the tip for herself! I'm in the process of getting the matter fixed, but I definitely don't recommend using a credit card there. Or if you do, keep your receipt!

I love Sammy's: I still crave the bbq chicken pizza and the shrimp angel hair pasta. My husband and I used to dine at Sammy's a lot when we were dating and in San Diego. I miss it!!!

I can't wait until I go back to get some more: Found the place while in the Navy stationed in San Diego. It felt like you were back home in your nieghborhood pizza house. Very Friendly and prompt. Crust tasted great and the sauce was to die for. Great place for a bite to eat after a movie and to grab some pie to take home. I need to go back and get a slice.

Decent place to eat: Food was good..i recommend the angel hair pasta for something light or the mac n cheese for an appetizer..usually if we're in the mood for something Italian and can't think of a place, Sammy's is a good place we can rely on. Good service and the food is alright.

Don't Pass Up Sammy's: I was really impressed with Sammy's. It has a very warm atmosphere and the prices are right. The woodfired pizza was a treat. The service was excellent and the wait time was minimal. The only con - and it's no fault of the restaurant - is that Sammy's sits directly across the street from an adult entertainment store. I only mention it because the restaurant has these great window seats, with a view that hampers the great mood inside Sammy's.

We discovered Sammy's when we moved to San Diego in 1989, and it is still our favorite pizza here.......and we've tried many, many of the others....Their attention to consistency and quality is unsurpassed. When we have friends visiting, we always take them there, and they have all raved about all the food there!! Think I'll go have a pizza there now !!!

The Real Thing: My family is from Southern Italy & I have had many visits to that region. We had the pleasure of dining at Sammy's in the Carlsbad area. Sammy's Wood Fired Pizza captures the essence and flavor of truly wood-fired pizza. The crust is just a bit thicker than in Italy but Sammy's has captured the taste quite impressively. The texture of the crust was also very light as it should be. Properly fueling and preparing the oven to bake authentic wood-fired pizza is an art and Sammy's has it down. There are many "fakes" out there that have wood-fired ovens or some facsimile but Sammy's does the real thing. The salads are also excellent and the balsamic vinigarette dressing was very well balanced. I cannot comment on the other main course items because I didn't try them but the pizza was truly "molto buono". I've heard that we may be seeing Sammy's in northern california where I live and they would be most welcome. We hope they won't leave Sonoma and Marin counties out of their plans.

This is one of the most overrated places I've been to in awhile. Though it does boast an ok menu, the food was, at best, mediocre...

Favorite salad: We have been trying to eat healthy lately, and if you want to eat right you have to try the chicken chopped salad at Sammys woodfired, it's a meal in itself, the individual salad is easily enough to share with a friend, if you go don't forget to order the cheese ravioli with mushrooms, oh man that sauce is so good you'll be mopping up with the fresh french bread.

Sammy's Outshines California Pizza Kitchen: Sammy's Pizza is a hit with my family and friends. If you enjoy California Pizza Kitchen I think you'll enjoy Sammy's much more. Sammy's has a friendly staff, good prices, excellent food and is not a large boring (blah) chain of restaurants like CPK. I like the atmosphere and everyone that I've taken there or have gone because of my reco just love Sammy's. Try it you'll be hooked.

Love Sammy's Pizza, Salads, and Salmon: Have been dining at Sammy's for over 9 years, since moving here in 1996. Fabulous Pizza, Great Salads, and wonderful Salmon dish. I prefer their old ambiance, loved all of the hanging plants with vines--- and the cozy feeling of the way there restaurants looked BEFORE they decided to Feng Shui it. Somehow--- it has never felt as good as the previous design... but overlooking that--- it is still one of my favorite places to dine in San Diego. A great place to take people visiting from out of town. Many other cities do not have wood-fired pizzas like Sammy's. Most people are really impressed with the pizza and service!

Only Average: Initially, I was excited to try this place out, since I had read another review, saying how it was better than CA Pizza Kitchen. Well, I have to say that I was greatly disappointed by my experience. My waiter was attentive enough, but the food was the major drawback. My appetizer was less than appetizing (Too salty!!), and when my food arrived, the risotto I ordered was disappointing as well. (Again, too salty!). My Garlic Shrimp pizza was good, but not nearly as good as the pizza at CPK. This is one place that has been overrated, and I will not be going back nor recommending it to anyone else.

May be the best pizza we've ever had!: We had planned to find Filippi's Grotto to check out their pizza, but a local we met recommended Sammy's. It is conveniently located in the Gaslamp district, so we walked there before going to a ballgame at Petco. The service and ambiance were both excellent, but the pizza was absolutely fantastic! Would like to go to Filippi's sometime to compare, but you won't go wrong eating at Sammy's!

Atmosphere, Friendly Service, and Awesome Pizza!: Right in the heart of the Gaslamp District, Sammy's is the perfect choice for someone looking for a casual meal, accompanied by great service, and a trendy setting. Every aspect of this place is great. If you're in San Diego, and you're going to the Gaslamp, or if you're just craving a good pizza, you can't go wrong with Sammy's!

This was the worst Pizza I have ever had. It was so bad that the only word I have for it is ridiculous. Priceswere not that good either. I feel like throwing up. It was so salty that it gave me a headache and indigestion.

seafood dishes. You have the option of inventing your own pizza. Ingredients for all the meals are fresh and the food portions have hungry appetites in mind. The casual atmosphere bustles with vibrant lunch and dinner crowds.

Only Team Yummy never expected to savor AS much variety at Sammys Woodfired Pizza as we did. Easily the most family friendly from among the Ladeki properties there would be no one singing I cant get no satisfaction on this occasion...
