A beautiful day and the chance to sit outside and people watch are the only things that saved this rather dismal experience at La Vera's Pizza. Maybe I should have had pizza, but my lunch partner and I didn't choose to; so she ordered a spinach salad ($9.95) without Gorgonzola and apparently without flavor as her comment was "I've had a better one at Applebees", The spinach was fresh, but there was a total lack of flavor in the dressing. The small pieces of bacon and hard-boiled egg could not save it. I ordered a lunch special Chicken Panini ($9.95) described as a "grilled chicken breast, brie cheese, with a sun-dried tomato and basil pesto". Well, the bread was crisp, the rest was tasteless, except that they left the rind on the brie which gave the sandwich a rather moldy taste. The "Pasta Salad" was corkscrew pasta tossed with some parsley and chopped bell pepper, mixed with mayonnaise. Huh? You are an Italian eatery, how about some Italian pasta salad, olive oil, vinegar, olives??? And boy, can those corkscrew pastas hold that mayo! I observed three other tables with the pasta salad, all left untouched. I also ordered a glass of chardonnay ($8.00); the pour was skimpy, about 3 1/2 ounces. 8 bucks for that just sucks! However, hope springs eternal, so we ordered dessert - a seasonal apple crisp, and two cappuccinos. The cappuccinos were good, the crisp was not, not crisp, not good. LindySez - With so many fine Italian Restaurants in the area, save your $50.00 for lunch for two and go somewhere, anywhere else. Or, perhaps have the pizza.
